How can we help?

ISP&IPv4

Why does my proxy connection show a very high packet loss rate?

SANETER Help Center

A high packet loss rate does not necessarily mean that the proxy IP itself is dropping packets.

In many cases, packet loss may already be occurring before your traffic reaches the proxy server, especially when you are connecting through a relay, transit server, or other intermediate route.

For example, the actual connection path may look like:

Your device → Relay server → Proxy server → Destination

If there is already significant packet loss between your device and the relay server, the final proxy connection will naturally appear unstable even if the proxy server itself is operating normally.

To identify the actual source of the problem, we recommend testing each part of the route separately. In particular, check the packet loss between your local device and your relay server first. This can help determine whether the loss is occurring on your local/international route or on the proxy side.

For users in mainland China, international routing quality can have a major impact on packet loss, latency, and available bandwidth. If you want to get the best possible performance from your proxy, we recommend using a high-quality optimized international route, such as CN2 GIA, 9929, or CMIN2, where available.
